Paper Chess

The other week, I was with my dad and his friend. His friend was telling us a story about the time he spent in jail due to difficulty paying child support. While he was in the cell, he was playing hours and hours of chess with a Mexican guy who could barely speak English. It wasn't a legit chess set of course. The guy got hold of a piece of paper and a pencil. He drew a chess board on the paper and ripped up several pieces of paper to represent each different chess piece.

When he said that, I could only remember the time I was back in high school and my classmates were doing the exact same thing.

Then it hit me.

In both government facilities, the most engaging thing to do was play board games in order to pass the time.
